Pumpkin Carving

In between taking temperatures, dolling out doses of Tylenol and Motrin, and amidst the chorus of coughing in our house, we decided to carve pumpkins on Saturday night.

Daddy carved one.

Evan and Ryan cleaned theirs out
and then told Mommy what they wanted.

Nathan was content to just hang out. I think at one point,
he even left the kitchen to go "read" books on the couch.
The boy LOVES to read :)

Anyway, we told the boys to get newspaper out of the recycling box to cover the table before we started. Evan comes running back from the laundry room with some school papers I'd recycled.

[I'm trying to be much more efficient w/paperwork this year ~ only saving the really great stuff ~ as I still have stacks of papers from Evan's preschool AND kindergarten upstairs waiting to be sorted through ~ ugh!]

The ensuing conversation...

E: Hey, who threw these away?

M: I did. I'm only saving the really great things you bring home. I can't save every single math paper you do in first grade.

E: But I worked really hard on this....I had to use all my fingers.

Scrappy Share

I know I've been MIA here for a little while.

Busy with balancing my new job and family life.
And when I do get a free {HA!} moment, I've been trying to scrapbook.

I've been inspired lately by some challenges and sketches, and even though I don't usually complete them in time to upload for the deadlines,
I still get to scrapbook and share them here. :)
Lucky you! :)
This was a recent challenge on the Stampin' Sisters in Christ site.
The only requirement was to use the verse
Psalm 97:1: The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad. Let the distant shores rejoice.

Patterned paper, October Afternoon; Thickers, American Crafts; Letter stickers, Making Memories

This is a card I made for a bloggy/scrapbooker friend who is currently battling breast cancer. I really like the way it turned out, but I especially like how I was able to use the scraps from another project....they were already cut into squares. This came together pretty quickly.

Patterned paper, Basic Grey; Pink cardstock, Bazzill; Journaling tag, October Afternoon; Letter stickers, Making Memories;
Velvet Ribbon, Cosmo Cricket

And finally, a layout I did using a sketch from Pamela Young. I don't often hide my journaling, but in this case, I ran out of room on the page. I lifted Evan's photo with foam squares and hid the journaling card behind there. I like that I got to use another file folder tab anyway...

3D

Last weekend, we took the boys to see Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D to celebrate my birthday. :)

Toy Story 2 is one of my absolute favorite animated movies ~ TS1 is good, too, but I prefer TS2. The boys love watching them at home, so I thought this would be a fun Saturday afternoon family activity.

This was Nathan's first theater movie and he did great. Didn't always keep the 3D glasses on, but that was o.k. He didn't seem to mind watching without them.

Now, my boys ALL have BIG heads, but these 3D glasses were humongous on them....

Did they not think that little kids might be coming to see this movie?

We came.
We saw.
We sported the Roy Orbison glasses.
We ate 2 tubs of popcorn.
We survived....

and only Nathan threw up at the end of the night....

All in all, it was a great success :)

Comical Conversation

The other morning, Evan was clapping and jumping around.
This is not an unusual sight in our house. If it was Ryan.

But Evan is like his mommy and daddy:
getting out of bed is one thing...
actually waking up is another.

So when I saw how excited Evan was, I asked him what was up.

E: I can't wait to go to school today. I just love going to school, mom.

M: I'm so glad that you love school so much, Evan.

E: Yeah, it's a rash getting up so early, but once you're there, it's fun!

A rash getting up?
When did my sweet little 6 year old turn into a 15 year old?
