A Gem of a Day

A few things that I overheard today...

Evan was riding K's bike. K, the lone girl among 4 boys, started putting on her bike helmet and said, "I'm putting on my bike helmet."

In other words, "Evan, get the heck off my bike, I'm ready to ride." Isn't it funny how females assume, even at the tender age of 3 1/2, that males can interpret what we say???? :) [He didn't, of course.]

Ryan: I want to be a bird for Christmas, mommy......

Um, okay....

Ryan & K ride their bikes up to the bus stop when we pick up Evan at the end of the day. Ryan wanted to ride K's bike. [I really don't understand WHAT the attraction is for my boys to ride a pink and purple bike!!]

When I told him to get off her bike, he looked at me, put his hands up in the air as if to say, "What?" and said, "I just want to take it for a test drive."

Evan was riding his bike this afternoon without his helmet. I told him to put his helmet on several times. He finally said to me, "Tara [a 7th grader in our neighborhood who's always riding her bike] doesn't wear a helmet. Why do I have to?"

"I'm not Tara's mom. I'm Evan's mom and I told you to put your helmet on." When I heard this, I quick looked around because I wondered where my mom was :) Then I thought to myself, "Oh, my gosh, I sound exactly like my mother. When did that happen?" :) Love you, mom! :)

Another Picture = A Thousand Laughs

Maybe I'm just immature, but EVERY time I see Evan's bus pull up, I have to laugh....

Another Boy

I am so excited.
There's another boy to add to the mix.

Our friends, Teresa and Brett, had their baby on Friday morning.

Braden Patrick, 8 lbs 11 oz, full head of dark hair, total cutie pie.

This is their 3rd little boy. They have a 5 year old who is only 3 weeks older than Evan. And they have a 22 month old little angel in heaven.

What are the odds that my best friends from high school and I all have 3 boys each? We officially have a baseball team now. Here they are this summer minus Carter who was in the stroller...

I thought for sure Teresa would have a girl and I have to admit there was a split second of disappointment when she told me the news. Having a little pink around here when we get together would be kind of nice.
Then I got to thinking....I mean, what would a little girl do with 8 boys running around? And then when they get older, she'd have to fight them off and there would be some fierce competition for her attention.
SO, I'm pretty sure God knew what he was doing. :)

Five Firsts for Friday

OUR WEEK of FIRSTS...

1. FIRST day of kindergarten:

Evan loved his first week of kindergarten. He loved his teachers and had fun having music, art, and library. He didn't cry at all ~ but mommy & daddy shed a little tear when he climbed on that bus for the first time and didn't even look back...

2. FIRST bus ride:

3. FIRST few days of babysitting our neighbor's children:

K has already been recruited to the "No Crust Planet" super hero team...

4. FIRST banana cream pie:

5. FIRST mustache:

"Mommy, look what I drew."

Thank goodness for washable markers :)

So Long Summer....

I cannot believe it's September 1st already. It seems like just yesterday it was 4th of July.

Ah, well....it was a wonderful summer full of fun things to do and spending time with people we love. Can't ask for more than that.

Tomorrow my baby starts kindergarten ~ it's the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

Thought I'd take a little pictorial trip down memory lane tonight as we say good-bye to summer and hello to fall...
