It's a MIRACLE!

Remember this post?

Well, Ryan was "till" having trouble with his S blends this summer.

I wasn't going to "weat" it until he "tarted" kindergarten. I figured from everything I'd read it was a developmental thing and if he was really in jeopardy, his teacher would pick up on it and recommend him for "peech" therapy.

A week or so before "cool" "tarted," we were sitting at the dinner table.

Ryan was especially tired and grouchy.

Mark asked him,"Where'd we find you?" [a favorite question in our house]

Ryan continued to pout.

I chimed in with, "Yeah, Ryan. Did we find you in the garbage can? [shameless Sesame Street/Oscar the Grouch reference] Say 'scram!"

To our surprise and amazement, Ryan looked at us and said, "SCRAM!" with the SCR- and all!!!

We all about fell off our chairs.

Mark and I looked at each other across the table and I exclaimed, "It's a MIRACLE!"

At this point, Ryan was smiling as we continued to make a HUGE deal out of his apparent speech miracle. I continued to quiz him, having him repeat word after word to see if it was, in fact, true, and not a fluke.

After a stream of words like:

stop

squirrel

ice cream with sprinkles [one of our favorite lines without the S blends!]

special

switch

swing

slide
and
slippery

we decided Ryan was cured!

Don't know how, but we'll take it :)

"Niff, niff."

scrappy share

Supplies: Patterned paper, October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket;
Paper edgers, Colorbok; Chipboard button, Scenic Route;
Thickers, American Crafts.

I LOVE this layout of Evan! It captures his funny personality and humor so well. The photo was taken when he was only three and I scrapped it a while ago, but I still like it.

thankful thursday

I thought I'd use one of my weekly posts to remember the little things in life.

While these things can often be overlooked in the "busyness" of life, I want to be more purposeful about what's reallly important in the grand scheme of things.

Hence, the birth of "thankful thursdays" :)

Today, I am thankful for Ryan's sense of style:

What are you thankful for today?

adventures of goggle boy

Goggle Boy [a.k.a. Nathan] always begins his day
with a healthy breakfast of cereal and juice.
It is the most important meal of the day.

In only a matter of minutes,
Goggle Boy is dressed
and ready for a day of saving the world.

You know, leaping over buildings in a single bound....

Saving damsels in distress...

Always there when you call...

Ready and raring for a trip to the pool...

Strapped in [safety first, people] and smiling.

Ready to conquer the swimmies.

Never one to pass up an opportunity to be silly,
or go for an easy laugh,
Goggle Boy can morph into
Goofy Goggle Boy
in a flash.

Hills?
What hills?
Goggle Boy flies over hills without fear,
with the greatest of ease.
"Look, Mom, no hands!"

But alas, all these superhero duties
wear Goggle Boy out.
Or was it Goggle Boy's nemisis "Cat Nap???"

Tune in next week for the continuing saga of Goggle Boy! :)

what a day

Mark's car broke down on the way to work.

Evan had a fever at school and needed to be picked up around 2 p.m.

Mark couldn't pick him up without a car.

I was in the middle of teaching my first day with my fourth graders.

I got coverage for my class and went to leave.

Uh-oh.

I don't have a car either.

It's being detailed by our night custodian who daylights as a detailer.

I borrow a friend's car,

pick up Evan,

return to school to switch out cars,

pick up the other two,

and pick up Mark at the car repair shop.

Pretty much in the car from 2 to 5.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day!

first day of school

Today marks the beginning of our third week of school.

32 packed lunches

24 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

$81 to various causes

a billion and one papers signed and returned

2 boxes of crayons

2 boxes of markers

1 pair of scissors

1 bus warning

3 classroom warnings

8 days down

182 to go

Here's the trio on the first day. Even Nathan had to have his backpack on like his big brothers. No school for him until next year.

My big kindergartner was so excited and so brave. Ryan couldn't wait to ride the bus with Evan. I don't know why, but I was more nervous this time around. I don't know why. Evan handled the bus on his own when it was his turn for kindergarten. I kept reminding Evan to sit with Ryan and make sure he behaved and got off when he was supposed to (they are in different buildings).

Evan took his big brother duties seriously. Here they are holding hands as the bus pulled up. Isn't that cute?

Bye-bye boys! Mommy managed to wave and smile. Then when I got in the car to head to my own school, I must admit I wiped away a few tears. I can't believe my middle baby is going to school ALL day long. Where does the time go?

I'm so glad the buses run a little late the first day. I was able to meet the bus and catch the big boys jumping off the bus. I couldn't wait to hear about their days.
M: What was your favorite part of the day, Ryan?
R: Lunch and recess.
It's going to be a long year...
