quote of the week

* This actually happened back in the fall, but for some reason, I never posted it ~ Enjoy! *

R: I can count to infinity and beyond, mom.

M: Really?

R: Yep, 10, 20, 30 [I'll spare you the torture - I mean, the details..]...100, 200, 1000, 10000, infinity and beyond.

M: Wow, Ry! That was great!  How'd you learn to do that?

R: Because I'm smart.

Valentine Craft Tutorial

 Last year, I made this super-easy and super-cute paper heart garland.
 Several people wondered how I made it, so I put together this short tutorial
 for you just in time to make for Valentine's Day.

First, pick out some pretty coordinating papers.
I used about 4-5 different papers and cut twelve 2 3/4" hearts out
of each on my Cricut machine.  If you use double sided paper, you
won't need quite so many. If you don't have a Cricut, you could
hand-cut or punch out your hearts.

My garland ended up holding 28 hearts, but you can make yours
as long or as short as you want.

I laid out the hearts on my floor, alternating patterns so that two of
the same were not right next to each other.  I also checked to make
sure that each side was a different pattern.

I applied three spots of adhesive to stick the two sides of each
heart together.  If you used double-sided paper, you can skip this step.

I sewed the hearts together, leaving about a foot of thread
on either end for hanging.  Make sure your sew line is towards
the top of the heart so that your garland is balanced and the hearts
don't flip over when you hang it up.
Enjoy!

scrappy share

I haven't shared any scrapbook pages recently, so I went hunting through my photo folder and found this very appropriate layout that I created using a Creating Keepsakes sketch.  I did submit this, but never heard anything.  Don't know what that magazine is looking for....in fact, I've been pretty disappointed with its contents lately.  Any other CK readers out there who think the same??

Anyway, this layout features various photos taken during each of the 3 huge snowstorms we had last season.  Since we're snowed in for the second day in a row with a good 12-18" on the ground, I thought this was very relevant.

 If you click on the image, you should be able to view it larger.

Supplies: Black & White dot paper, Scenic Route; Turquoise pp, October Afternoon;
Red & Turquoise dot paper, Imaginisce; Graph pp, October Afternoon; Trees, Basic Grey;
"Remember When" Cosmo Cricket; Stickers, October Afternoon, Scenic Route, Joann Crafts;
Felt Snowflake, Target $1 Spot; Dot letters, Making Memories;
Thickers, American Crafts; Ribbon, Cosmo Cricket

thankful thursday

Even though my school schedule is screwy

[FOR THE 57th TIME IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS!]...

Even though everybody on t.v. seems bothered by the snow...

Even though we have to make up these days...

Today, I am thankful for snow days.

Thankful for the chance to sleep in, be crafty,

and spend some time with my boys.

What are you thankful for today?

oh, the logic of a boy

Tonight's bedtime conversation:

R: Mom, I want to get a shower tomorrow morning.

M: Ryan, you got a shower this morning.  You don't need another one tomorrow.

R: But I want to be extra clean so I don't have to take a shower for 2 weeks.

Good thinking, Ryan...

And by the way, what an appropriate shirt...

quote of the week

While waiting for the first (and unfortunately, the last) rocket launch in the backyard,
Nathan said, "I'm so excited, I'm going to pee my pants."

Really?!?

He's 4.

And no, I've never used this phrase before in my life.  Really.

Happy New Year!

I know it's taken me a bit to get back on the "blogging ball" since the holidays, but I have a confession to make.

I think I'm addicted to Wii...in particularly Wii Lego Batman.  Spent a lot of time playing it with the boys over the Christmas vacation, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, right?  :)

In the meantime, I have had some time to think about my hopes for this new year.

I hope that I will be in the moment and cherish every time my little boys want to give me hugs and never let go.  I am starting to realize that these days will not last forever and pretty soon I will be wishing for them back.

I pray that my relationship with Mark continues to grow in love and laughter and in the Lord....you'd think after 21 years together there'd be no more room for growth, but that is very far from the truth.

I pray that my relationship with the Lord continues to grow stronger.  One of my goals this year is to read through the entire Bible, something that I've tried before but never accomplished.  I am determined this time and I hope that this time next year I will be able to say "I did it!"

I hope that I continue to learn to make time for the people and things that are truly important:
family, friends, prayer, reading, scrapbooking, and blogging
{notice Wii is not listed here....see, I know} :)

I wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year filled with love and life and laughter.
