The Gift of Sabbath Rest

I'm reading Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World with my women's Bible study and in the last chapter, I was struck between the eyes with this story:

"...of a migrant South African tribe that regularly went on long marches. Day after day they would tramp the roads. But then, all of a sudden, they would stop walking and make camp for a couple days. When asked why they stopped, the tribe explained that they needed the time of rest so that their souls could catch up with them." (p. 184)

I LOVE this concept of slowing down to let my soul catch up. Taking care of 3 young children and a house - HA! (hey, I try) - keeps me running some days at what feels like light speed. Even trying to "make time for myself" wears me out because I inevitably stay up entirely too late. I'm so glad that God has given me a day of rest to help my soul catch up with the rest of me - to help me balance out again and give me a fresh perspective to start my week. Now I just need to give myself permission to s-l-o-w down!

It's hard to SLOW Down when you have little ones around! And its really hard finding time for yourself. I wished I had a women study to go to. The Lord has really put this on my heart lately for some reason. I've been studing a lot more but its just not the same. Thanks for sharing! Take Care!

I started reading that book in a women's Bible study, but I'm looking around my room right now, and I have no idea where it is! I've got to find it b/c I really enjoyed it and need to get reading again!

Thanks for the reminder that God wants us to rest for our souls to catch up. My life feels so crazy right now (in a totally different way from yours with 3 little ones!), but I'm realizing more and more that if I wait for life to slow down before I give myself a chance to rest, I will run myself ragged and be stretched so thin that I can never give myself, the people I love around me, or most importantly the Lord the best version of myself that I can be! It is so hard to s-l-o-w down sometimes, but I pray that we all can remember how crucial it is for our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. I really needed to read that this morning as I'm frantically trying to write a paper due in 2 hours ahhh! I knew there was a reason I was procrastinating and catching up on your blogs :) Love you Amy!
